GIVE ME A PAKISTANI MEHNDI

Henna is called mehndi in Pakistan. It is from this plant where henna paste is made from. Its leaves are crushed and grounded and mixed with other liquids to make henna paste to stain the skin and form a temporary tattoo. These tattoos last between 2 to 4 weeks or longer. Henna stains appear reddish brown but darken the longer it stays on the skin.

Pakistani mehndi is obviously commonly used in Pakistan. These tattoos are intricately made designs made by professional mehndi artists. They are difficult to create as they require longer time upon application. Compared to the Indian and Arabic mehndi, Pakistani mehndi is the most time-consuming to create. But, it is worth the time because when it is done, people could see the beauty in its intricate and carefully-made designs.

On special occasions, Pakistani mehndi tattooing is used to further enhance the beauty of the Pakistani women. Mehndi tattoos are popularly used in Pakistan during weddings. Similar to Indian weddings, Pakistani weddings that do not have mehndi are said to be incomplete. In their tradition, there is a phase in the wedding ceremony dedicated to mehndi tattooing. On the first day, symbolical henna is applied on the groom’s hands and feet. The second day is celebrated at the bride’s house where she and her friends apply henna on their bodies.

With Pakistani mehndi, the hands and feet of the bride are completely covered with intricately designed henna tattoos. From the hands up to her elbow, and from the feet to her calf muscles, henna is applied without leaving a single spot unfilled.

Mehndi celebrations are the only times when the Pakistani women can beautify themselves. This is because they are not usually allowed to do so lest they be branded as vain. The only other time they are allowed to do such is with the purpose of having to please their husbands as they believe it to be the duty of a wife that is faithful and good.

Pakistani mehndi has a vast array of styles to choose from. Nowadays, they do not limit patterns to the traditional ones. Mehndi artists have incorporated modern designs to their list to provide continuity and variety of the tattoos.

YOU GOT ME AT HENNA

It has been a long time since people started tattooing their bodies. What was once believed to be a practice among the men has now come across to the women as well. Parents of teenagers are going ballistic over their children getting a tattoo without their knowledge. What these parents should know now is that they can already offer their children alternatives to getting a permanent tattoo.

Henna tattoo is a great alternative for those who do not want needle pricks, pain and permanent tattoos. These tattoos are temporary tattoos which would last up to 2 to 4 weeks. A henna plant is grounded with essential oils, sugars, and other liquids and then mixed together to create the paste used in tattooing without the addition of chemicals.

When making body art, it is important that one should know what type of henna is being used upon the skin: natural henna or black henna. Natural henna makes use of organic henna. It has a greenish-brown color but it may seem black from a distance. When put on the skin, natural henna will give out a stain which is brown in color as opposed to black henna. Black henna contains a chemical content called p-Phenylenediamine to darken the stain and is harmful to the skin. This dye is only used as hair dye and is considered illegal.

Application of henna tattoos would only be on the surface of the skin or the decorative layer of the skin. When the surface layers are exfoliated, the inner layers move up making the henna tattoo slowly fade in a few weeks. Permanent tattoos, on the other hand, are tattooed on the inner layers. The inner layers do not get exfoliated making these tattoos permanent.

As henna tattoos continue to be developed, henna tattoo artists have found a way to create permanent henna tattoos. However, henna is still preferred to be used temporarily. For those who do not want to hire a henna tattoo artist to cut on costs, application of henna is now made easier. Henna powders are henna pens are already made available in the markets. These are most likely cheaper than when having a professional apply them on your skin. Better yet, one may opt to make their own paste using the ingredients from their kitchen.
